FAQs
What is a drug and alcohol evaluation?
A drug and alcohol evaluation involves a professional evaluator who asks questions to determine the subject’s history with and current relationship to drugs and alcohol. This evaluation is often court-ordered and determines a subject’s patterns of substance use, possible consequences of their use, and whether they need specialized treatment.
The evaluation is conducted by a licensed or certified professional who can diagnose substance use disorders. The evaluator’s findings help decide if a treatment plan is appropriate, and provide specific recommendations. The findings can also impact the charges brought against them and/or alter their sentencing.
What can I expect during drug and alcohol evaluations?
At a drug and alcohol evaluation, a client will fill out a brief questionnaire and then complete a 45- to 55-minute interview via phone or video call with one of our experienced evaluators.
Each evaluator has credentials or licensing to diagnose and treat substance use disorders. The questionnaire provides an evaluator with some basic information about the client so they can better understand their particular case. The interviewer asks the client specific questions about their substance use, occupation, personality, mental health, childhood experiences, and if members of their family struggle with substance abuse.
Based on their findings, the evaluator determines whether the client could benefit from any education or treatment and creates a specific treatment plan for those who need help.
