What Warrants a Drug and Alcohol Evaluation
A general drug and alcohol evaluation or substance abuse assessment is often required when a prescription medication, illegal drug, and/or alcohol are part of the following circumstances:
A DUI/DWI arrest or charge where the driver was charged with impairment from alcohol use, drug use, or both
A general request by a physician or where the physician has concerns about possible abuse of a prescription medication
If you or someone close to you has a concern about your use of drugs and/or alcohol and you would like an assessment
How to Get a Court-Ordered Drug and Alcohol Evaluation Near You
Our process involves a brief online questionnaire, followed by a 40–50 minute interview with a professional evaluator. After the interview, your evaluator will email a report to you in 5 business days. If you need your report sooner, ask us about rush order options. Court representatives, employers, or other third parties only see your report if you choose to provide it to them.
All of our evaluators have a state license or credential to diagnose and treat substance use disorders.
* If you have been asked to get an Intervention in Lieu of Conviction Assessment, please call our 800 number first. Our general drug & alcohol assessment will not satisfy the court, but we can provide an ILC evaluation on a case-by-case basis.

What is a drug and alcohol evaluation?
A drug and alcohol evaluation involves a professional evaluator who asks questions to determine the subject’s history with and current relationship to drugs and alcohol. This evaluation is often court-ordered and determines a subject’s patterns of substance use, possible consequences of their use, and whether they need specialized treatment.
The evaluation is conducted by a licensed or certified professional who can diagnose substance use disorders. The evaluator’s findings help decide if a treatment plan is appropriate, and provide specific recommendations. The findings can also impact the charges brought against them and/or alter their sentencing.
What can I expect during drug and alcohol evaluations?
At a drug and alcohol evaluation, a client will fill out a brief questionnaire and then complete a 45- to 55-minute interview via phone or video call with one of our experienced evaluators.
Each evaluator has credentials or licensing to diagnose and treat substance use disorders. The questionnaire provides an evaluator with some basic information about the client so they can better understand their particular case. The interviewer asks the client specific questions about their substance use, occupation, personality, mental health, childhood experiences, and if members of their family struggle with substance abuse.
Based on their findings, the evaluator determines whether the client could benefit from any education or treatment and creates a specific treatment plan for those who need help.
