Other Court-related charges such as drug possession or paraphernalia charges, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, domestic violence, or trespassing while under the influence

Frequently Asked Substance Abuse Evaluation Questions
What is a drug and alcohol evaluation?
A drug and alcohol evaluation involves a basic questionnaire first, followed by an interview with a professional evaluator who asks questions to determine the subject’s history and current relationship to drugs and alcohol. This evaluation is often court-ordered and determines a subject’s patterns of substance use, possible consequences of their use, and whether they need education, counseling, or a longer term treatment program. In some cases of a rare incident, no treatment may be recommended.
The evaluation is conducted by a licensed or certified professional who can diagnose substance use disorders. The evaluator’s findings help decide if a treatment plan is appropriate, and provide specific recommendations. The findings can also help in a plea bargain or help with sentencing terms from the court.
What can I expect during drug and alcohol evaluations?
At a drug and alcohol evaluation, a client will fill out a brief questionnaire and then complete a 30 to 45-minute interview via phone or video call with one of our experienced evaluators.
Each of our evaluators is licensed and qualified to diagnose and treat substance use issues. Before your interview, we ask you to fill out a short questionnaire so the evaluator can get a basic understanding of your situation. During the interview, professionals will ask simple questions about your substance use, work life, relationships, and family background. This allows them to see the full context of your situation and understand the reasons for the assessment.
Based on the findings, the evaluator will let you know whether you could benefit from educational resources or treatment and create a specific treatment plan for those who need help.
